A guide to beautiful Dashboards (basic design principles) | dash-resources.com

Hello!

I noticed that many people in this community not only want to create dashboard, but want to create beautiful, visually appealing dashboards (and/or applications).

Why does it matter ? User interface & user experience has a huge impact to convince people to use a dashboard/app. And on user retention.

Even if I am not a professional UI/UX design (not at all), I learned a few things since I started web development 10 years ago, and I tried to summarize them in this article:

Keys principles are:

  • Pick a font
  • Pick colors correclty
  • Beware of hierarchy
  • Space things out
  • Remember to style charts too
  • Use pre-made components

Thorough the article, I guide you to these steps with one example dashboard that I improve one step at a time.

I hope this will be useful.
Let me know what you think

Good tips. I regularly use chrome > developer tools > lighthouse to get an insight in amongst other things, accessibility (hierarchy, colorcontrast etc.)
