Plotly Studio Early Access: The Wait(list) is Over!

Just a few weeks ago, we announced Plotly Studio was open for early access. As our waitlist got longer and longer, members of our community started building, and we’ve been seriously impressed by what we’ve seen. So we’re opening the gates and removing the waitlist. You showed us what’s possible when building data apps gets easier. This kind of tech should be in more hands, and that starts now.

Just register for early access and you’re minutes away from downloading Plotly Studio. Then follow these instructions. The instructions include a link for reporting any problems or issues you might find. Also head over to our community forum (Studio and Cloud) and Discord server to join your peers, and share what you create.

The momentum hasn’t let up. Every day we’re seeing new ideas, new apps, and new ways of working with data. Here’s the roundup:

August 7th: “From Spreadsheet to Spectacular”

This upcoming event is your chance to see Studio in action if you haven’t already. Join Matt Brown and Chris Parmer for “From Spreadsheet to Spectacular”, a walkthrough of real world apps built in minutes with Plotly Studio and Cloud.

This session showcases early access projects from healthcare, finance, and manufacturing built and deployed straight from datasets. Ideal for analysts, scientists, and team leads who’ve ever said, “this should be an app.”

Technical progress that moves us forward

In addition to adding UX polish, accelerating start-up and generation times, our development team continues making solid progress on key platform improvements:

  • Dash Enterprise authentication is live, and we’re finalizing AI proxy and deployment workflows to support full enterprise integration. Reach out to your Plotly representative if you’re interested.
  • We’ve optimized token usage in app generation, which means lower pricing at GA (general availability) and broader access to high-quality data apps.
  • We now use Playwright to run Dash apps in real browsers, catch errors, and automatically adjust prompts to improve future runs.
  • We’re testing LLM-based methods to assess creativity and analytical fit, with future plans to analyze screenshots for visual issues.

BI industry experts share first impressions

Two influential BI community voices shared with us their initial Plotly Studio experience:

Art Tennick’s Five-Minute Hurricane Dashboard: Art demonstrated Plotly Studio’s integration capabilities by creating a comprehensive hurricane tracking dashboard in just five minutes using a Power BI semantic model.

Starting with a parquet file (leveraging strong data-typing advantages over CSV), he watched as Plotly’s AI automatically generated multiple visuals while writing extensive Python code behind the scenes. His single additional prompt—“Add a map to show the track and speed of a selected hurricane”—resulted in a sophisticated interactive visualization with hurricane symbols and intelligent zoom functionality.

His technical approach showcased the versatility of connecting to various semantic models, from Power BI Service and Fabric to Analysis Services deployments.

AI generated data app with maps

Brian Julius’s Zero-Training Success: Brian, a 6x LinkedIn Top Voice, documented his first attempt using zero training. His workflow: use Claude to generate comprehensive prompts, paste them into Plotly Studio’s chart outline boxes. Without writing code or creating DAX measures, he built a complete analytical dashboard.

Both Brian and Art point to the same trend: code-first, AI-native BI tools are where things are headed. Built something great with Plotly Studio? Share it on social and tag us; we’d love to highlight it in the community.

London meets for Plotly Studio workshop

Our London Plotly Studio workshop brought together 20+ data practitioners for a hands-on session with our AI-native product. Chris Parmer walked through our core approach of constraining the AI just enough to produce useful, accurate outputs by default.

The group tested Studio at the same time, uploading datasets and generating working applications side by side. It created real momentum and a shared sense of discovery. When the technical barriers drop, domain experts start building apps immediately. Read the summary.

Highlights from our “Let Your Data Vibe” event

Our recent webinar showcased why the data community is excited about Plotly Studio! Matt Brown and Nathan Drezner delivered a compelling live demonstration of AI-native data application development.

The demo built an interactive economic dashboard from World Bank data in under two minutes, applying a decade of Dash best practices. Publishing to Plotly Cloud was seamless. Studio handled the layout, interactivity, and infrastructure in one flow. Watch the full recording to see this technology in action.

Building tomorrow’s data world, together

Your patience and enthusiasm mean everything during this incredible journey. Every piece of community feedback helps us refine not just technology, but the entire experience of transforming data into insights through functional applications.

We’re co-creating a world where sophisticated visual analytics belongs in everyone’s hands. The applications we’re seeing and community excitement prove we’re witnessing something that will fundamentally change how teams approach data.

The future is here, and you’re building it with us. And if you still haven’t signed up for Plotly Studio (why not!?), sign up now for instant access.
