Thanks @Zoohair. I had to deal with similar constraints (workstation without access to the web). Based on your solution I updated my initial question in the plotly section.

Does scatter_geo needs an internet access to display the map?

Plotly actually tries to retrieve data from https://cdn.plot.ly/world_110m.json to plot the map. I found discussions about this on https://stackoverflow.com/questions/57213621/displaying-plotly-maps-on-disconnected-system, (Kevin Daly’s answer), and here https://github.com/plotly/plotly.py/issues/514 (carlosvega’s answer) Hammy27 suggested that installing plotly-geo would fix the issue, but it didnt work; maps are still missing. Perhaps the debugger could be a bit more “verbose” when the default cdn queried by plotly to plot a scatter_geo or any other map cannot be reached. I had to open the brower’s console to figure out what resource was missing.
