This role is part of a team that is dedicated to driving data innovation within Mintel by incorporating cutting edge technical domains such as machine learning and data science. The candidate will ideally have a strong honours degree in Computer Science or numerate subject or equivalent work experience; relevant PhD graduates would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Based in Belfast City Centre offices with hybrid working; the candidate will work closely with colleagues across multiple sites including; UK, US and Germany on a number of exciting initiatives within Mintel, the world’s leading market intelligence agency.

We need an individual with genuine curiosity in all things data, and a drive to learn a broad range of technologies to turn research & analysis into solutions. You will be the link between our analytical experts and dedicated engineering teams, and the key to building our data backed capabilities at Mintel. The role will rely on your ability to engage with analysts & engineers from multiple disciplines: your talent and enthusiasm will be the key to this success. You should be comfortable getting hands on to build small scale proof of concept solutions, and collaborating with engineers to integrate research output into production systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • Honours degree in Computer Science or STEM subject
  • Python programming language & scientific ecosystem (Scipy, Numpy, SKLearn, etc)
  • Practical experience of machine learning projects in academic or personal setting
  • Strong problem solving, ability to think abstractly and model complex systems
  • Excellent, team-oriented, communicator

Desirable Requirements

  • Personal projects tackling machine learning or data science problems
  • Knowledge of Natural Language Processing and/or Computer Vision
  • Experience using version control (preference of Git)
  • Experience working in GNU/Linux based systems
  • Working knowledge of SQL or other data retrieval languages
  • Knowledge work flow processes & tools; Agile, Kanban, JIRA
