Plotly-Dash v Tableau

Hi all,

I’ve been able to put together my first Dash apps and now I’m a total convert. I’ve been told that Tableau has a similarly beautiful design and layout (without all of the coding), so I’m wondering what Dash has on Tableau that I can take back to the Tableau converts in my life.

  • It’s open source
  • It has a Python back-end so you can manipulate data in any way you like (many data science packages)
  • You can deploy it to e.g. Heroku/Docker/Kubernetes very easily
  • You can build a whole website using Dash

Awesome, thank you so much. Can’t wait to keep building out my Dash skills.

Tableau is great for analysing an existing data set, but it is pretty weak at actually calculating things based on user input. Dash is great for that. You have to write code for Dash but that means you can do almost anything with it.
