New dash package: dash-init

Hi all, I just published a new open source Python package: dash-init

Every time I started a new Plotly Dash project, I rebuilt the same boilerplate: app file, assets folder, requirements, deployment config. So I automated it.

One command, running app:

pip install dash-init
dash-init create my-dashboard

What it does:

  • Scaffolds a complete Dash project: layout, callback, chart, assets, README, deploy instructions
  • 5 built-in templates, from a blank hello world to a multi-page Bootstrap dashboard
  • Can pull any GitHub directory as a template
  • Plays nicely with modern tooling: run uvx dash-init create . inside a uv project and it adds dependencies through uv add instead of touching your files
  • Zero dependencies, standard library only, MIT licensed

Try it: https://pypi.org/project/dash-init
Code: https://github.com/budescode/dash-init

Feedback and template contributions welcome.

Great idea! It reminded me a lot of GitHub - cookiecutter/cookiecutter: A cross-platform command-line utility that creates projects from cookiecutters (project templates), e.g. Python package projects, C projects. · GitHub which is a bit of a more general project starter tool.

This is great! Thanks for your contribution @Emmanuel_Omonbude !

As a Plotly employee and Dash Enterprise user, I always start from one of the Starter App Templates that ship with Dash Enterprise. I use them for the same purpose mentioned in your post. Fast ways to get started.

Have you considered adding an AGENTS.md file to your template folder structure? I have found that an AI code assistant works a lot better when it starts from a solid template like the ones you are providing. After that, some of the best practices in the AGENTS.md can be helpful.

Thank you very much, I will add it.
