Thank you to everyone that has participated in the MTA-Plotly app challenge. The Plotly judging committee was delighted with the quantity and quality of the apps submitted.
We’re honored to have such a talented community of Plotly and Dash users with an impressive understanding of data visualization concepts.
After much review and discussion, the Plotly judging committee has returned with their decision. And the first place goes to… 
Community member, Alonso, for the MTA Dashboard with the following code.
We loved being able to navigate the anchors on the app to go through the narrative or just scroll and take it all in. The use of the pills at the top is awesome UX. The app is intuitive and the visualizations are really powerful, showing you main events that happened and the results in ridership. The addition of the key milestones related to COVID shows how ridership was impacted in a meaningful way. The violin plot was also a fun way to compare weekend/weekday ridership.
In summary, there is excellent UI, well organized and well explained visuals. And it’s easy to navigate between figures, which are given lots of space to present context.

It’s easy to tell that the UI for this app was well thought through. We didn’t feel overwhelmed with data that we didn’t have context for because there is only one chart on the screen at any given time and it’s well explained. The summary on the right side of the dashboard made it easy to understand the key insights of the chart as well. Additionally, we found that separating the data between weekends and weekdays was well done because we were able to see how much the ridership difference may be affected by remote work.
We loved the simplicity and informative nature of the app. You can slice and dice without the UI changing all the time. The app layout divided the data exploration process into helpful phases: You interact with the app via the dropdown, you see the data, and then read the insights.

The app’s animations communicated the time lapse aspect very well. The author provides nice touches with custom icons, making it easy and fun to interact with the app. The bar chart was particularly memorizing. We loved how the ridership auto-adjusts over time and seems animated. This clearly shows the NY MTA’s recovery in a meaningful way. We also appreciated the addition of the ChatGPT.

. I feel honored and proud to be second, doing challenges is one thing but this was my first time going all the way with dash/plotly as I sometimes also do with Powerbi, meaning not being lazy. Keep the laugh you had seeing some parts of my code & enjoy
