Is this call still happening? I’ve been backstage, not sure if there’s a host
Edit: Nevermind! I see the message that it is cancelled. Lesson learned - read all the posts (or at least skim them)

Yes - sorry you didn’t see the note:

@mo.elauzei this is awesome! :star2:

It’s exactly what I envisioned for last week’s challenge. So cool to see it in action! You’ve made some great visual tweaks that I wanted to highlight.

First, the consistent color choice is fantastic—I love the shades of blue! :blue_heart: Also, in the original chart, the granularity was at the FIPS level, which made interactions tricky since some areas weren’t clickable. Starting with a state-level view, as you did, is perfect for these interactions.

Whenever people want to add interactions at the FIPS level, I always suggest starting with a state-level view like yours. Then, they can add a drill-down to zoom into specific states and show the relevant details at the FIPS level. :+1:

Hey @Alfredo49 - I really like how you’re using tabs as filters for different views and the big KPI card on the right :100: My eyes are immediately drawn to it :eyes: You might consider a different shade of blue for the KPI card to match the tabs, though that’s just a minor suggestion.

Keeping the granularity at the state level could simplify the chart, but your detailed view effectively highlights the missing data with unknown cities. It certainly aids in data exploration. Nice work! :+1:

Hey @cal337 - awesome to see you using PyCafe this time! :coffee: Did you find the deployment process straightforward as well?

Great interactive app! I’m curious if it’s possible to dynamically adjust the midpoint of the color scale. :thinking: This might enhance the chart’s contrast since high observations seem rare, making the yellow/green colors less prominent. Adjusting the midpoint could improve this!

Thanks for such a positive feedback, @li.nguyen, I really appreciate it.

I really wanted to add a drill-down feature to this Viz but haven’t had the time for that yet. I’m glad someone shares my strong preference for State-first map visualisations :sweat_smile:. In addition to the high likelihood of missing data points, I find FIPS-level maps a bit overwhelming due to the sheer number of data points on the map.

Notes:

  • You can also take a look on the apps of the other weeks :grin:
    (few are missing, including the home page, but hopefully they will come soon!)
  • The apps are responsive and compatible with all available Bootstrap themes and light/dark mode
  • Sorry if it is long to load, it is hosted on a Raspberry Pi in France :innocent:

Edit: I forgot the link to the code:
