Using an image for markers within a scatter plot

Is it possible to use images to represent each data point in a scatter chart?

I work in a school and I need a scatter chart with an X and Y point for each student, with an image that shows the student’s photograph representing each data point.

How would one accomplish this?

Not as scatter data points, but you can do so using data-referenced layout images. See Images in JavaScript

Is it still not possible to add symbols/images/icons as scatter data points ?

Bumping SDesai’s comment. Is it possible using Dash and custom javascript? Can’t find many examples of this anywhere.
