Line charts connectgaps not working as expected

Hello,

I see an issue connected to the topic I raised before and hence wanted to update here, hoping to find a reason why.

I am trying to plot multiple line graphs on top of another and have tried plotly express as well as plotly graph objects scatter plots but see as similar result as below…

Plotly Express as well as go.Scatter both result in a plot like this

In some lines there is a gap (as expected, because of a ‘Nan’ ) however in some (Red line) there is a straight line rather than plotting the individual values in that interval. Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong here? I am expecting either a gap (for ‘NaNs’ or usual lines for values…)

Only the last two columns in your data exhibit gaps. I plotted them and the chart looks good:

You should paste here your code to see why some gaps are skipped.

Once i get the dataframe ready, i then pass it to a plotly express chart using -

I was hoping to get a break in continuity between the 12th and the 16th Dec 2019. What am I doing wrong?

@aiyer1 I suspected that your plot is not the one you expected because when you created the csv file, you did not save instances of the datetime.datetime class in the column 'datetime', but just some strings representing datetimes to be read easily by your users. Since some lines are defined by points with y-coordinates containing gaps, I thought that plotly.js cannot identify the right starting or ending string corresponding to a sublist of finite y-coordinates.
To remedy this hypothetical drawback I defined a new column of datetime.datetime instances, and plotted y-coordinates versus these ones, but I displayed as ticklabels the strings in your datetime format from the column df['datetime'].
Checking the contents of different traces added by plotly.express to the ploted figure
I noticed that the central long lines are correctly drawn.

Does this mean, if i were to insert dummy date-times in the gap between the 12th Dec and 16th Dec and 'Nan’s for y-axis values, this will make each of the lines stop at the 12th and resume on the 16th?
