BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018 and officially commenced in November 2019, BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site would ultimately be built into a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the digital technologies and applying the high safety standards.

What you can expect

As a Senior Specialist Digitalization for the Production AI – Plant & Site Analytics Team, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site projects.

With the goal to continuously improve production plants and site planning by leveraging digitalization, you will support the realization of the Production AI scope. You will ensure all solutions deployed are highly reliable and adhere to all applicable internal requirements and external/governmental requirements.

You will work in partnership with the Global Digital Services, AI expert communities and BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project teams to conduct analyses related to chemical processes and value chains, as well as new technology driven use cases.

Main tasks

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, you will use your expertise in mathematical modeling in the field of networks to ensure that solutions deployed in a cloud environment are both quality and cost competitive.

You will develop models that help to improve decision support with respect to transparency, reliability, quality, throughput, safety, and sustainability for our internal customers operating production plants and sites.

You are familiar with agile working methodologies and confident to contribute to the corresponding ceremonies.

What we expect

Education: Degree in computer Science, (process) engineering or in a comparable field. Background in chemical process engineering, mathematics, statistics, or natural sciences

Work Experience

Good problem-solving skills in modelling and implementation

Hands-on working attitude to ensure the rollout of solutions

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including data visualization, especially in quantitative topics discussed with non-technical colleagues

Technical & Professional Knowledge (mandatory and nice to have)

Proficiency in cloud workflows, field-proven experience with cloud native services (Microsoft Azure) are welcomed

Continuous integration/continuous development, app deployment

Container virtualization and Kubernetes

Ideally experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps and related services

Strong background in backend development using Python

Ability to build and use API frameworks such as FastAPI, REST, GraphQL

Proficiency in front-end development in frameworks like Plotly Dash or React.js

Experience in engineering data pipelines connecting to Microsoft Azure databases (e.g. blob storage, data explorer) is beneficial

Interest to contribute to agile working methodologies

Language Proficiency

Fluent English Skills
