it seems that by default the axis are drawn in white, since I use a white background the axis are not visible. The gridcolor works but not for the axis:
How do I change the color of the axes?

Thanks @danpryjma for the quick reply. Just found out that this does not meet my problem 100%.
Using showline=True paints the outer axes (green arrows) which is fine and I also needed it. But the 0-axes if they differ from the outer axes are still white (red arrows).
