3d contained surface not in accordance with the 3d containing space

As you can see above, there is a big mismatch in terms of “scale” between the 3d-surface and all the rest of the figure (the 3d-containing space and the hover box, which are correct in their measurement!). Actually, if one goes to 3D Surface Plots in …, one can see the same problem,

Also, if I rotate the figure, it appears to be “thick” with no reasons, see

Any idea of what is going on and how to deal with this problem?

Thanks for codepen. Looks our picking routine can’t resolve the sharp peaks in your data.

You can subscribe to https://github.com/plotly/plotly.js/issues/2208 for the latest development info. That said, this bug won’t be up on our priority list I’m afraid.
